Two things make desert tour prices hard to compare. The headline price belongs to one option, usually the shared standard camp, while luxury tents, private tours and lunch packages are sold as other options on the same listing. And a part of the cost is paid in cash along the way: lunch at the restaurant stop, the guide at Ait Ben Haddou, drinks, tips and anything you hire in the dunes.

Per person for the option shown on this site, the round trips from Marrakech currently run €59–€117 and the tours to Fes €93–€98. Those prices refresh from the booking platforms and change with the date.

What the price includes

On the shared three-day tours the price covers pickup in Marrakech, the vehicle with driver, one hotel night, one night in the desert camp, two breakfasts and two dinners, and the camel rides at sunset and sunrise. Most listings add sandboarding and drumming at the camp; Sahara Desert Trip is an exception and lists sandboards for hire in Merzouga. Sahara Desert Trip and MOROCCOFIRSTGATE include a local guide for the Todra Gorge, and Sahara Desert Trip also lists entrance tickets.

Which option the price belongs to

Our tables show the price of the shared standard option. At RED CITY TRANS and 3t Travel the cheapest option is transport only, without a night in the camp, so this site shows their standard tent instead. Luxury and deluxe tents, private tours and lunch packages cost more and are chosen on the booking page after the date. What the camp upgrade brings is on standard or luxury camp. Private options are listed on private desert tours.

Paid along the way

Lunch is the largest of these costs, on all three days. On almost every listing it is on the not-included list, and the van stops at restaurants that cater for tour groups; reviewers find little choice there. The local guide at Ait Ben Haddou is a small fee on most listings, and Manzil Dades notes that local guides are paid per person on site. Tips for the driver and guide are on the not-included list of most listings. In the dunes, quads and buggies are hired from locals unless your option includes one, and sahara for you charges extra for a 4x4 transfer to the camp instead of the camel.

Carry cash. sahara for you writes that cards are not always accepted on the way, and the roadside restaurants and the guides at the stops expect dirhams. Withdraw enough in Marrakech before the trip.

What travellers say about value

Several reviewers call the trip good value and name lunch and drinks as the main spending on the road, and one guide helped with cash machines. One reviewer found lunch hard to skip without the lunch option.

“The activity was great, exception value for money and our guide, Hamid, was fantastic. The local guides at our stopping points were good too. My only feedback for improvement would be to have confirmation of pick up time sooner. We didn't know our pickup time until 8pm the night before.”

“Safouane and Zakaria were both an excellent guide and driver. This tour is amazing value for money and also just an overall wonderful experience. Had an amazing lunch on the second day and accomodation at both locations was great. 10/10. Would highly …”

“Our tour guide Haadi made the experience unforgettable. He was funny, helpful and informative. The lunch was expensive compared to other meals we had in morocco.”

“Mehdi was the best guide we could have had for this trip. Despite it being tiring at times he always made it fun. This is a once in a lifetime trip that you have to take when in Morocco. The cost involves so many things and the daily spendings are mainly the lunch and waters. So worth it!”

“I booked the normal option without lunch. Lunch didn't really seem optional. At lunchtime, we stopped in the middle of nowhere at restaurants that specialize in serving coach groups (very run-down). There was no opportunity to get away from the group having lunch and just have a cup of tea or …”

“We have passed three days with Khaleed our guide and Rachid our driver ! They were so lovely and fun, they helped us with all our needs (atm, toilet, avoiding scams…) ! They were young and matched the dynamic of the group. They always stayed with us, we will remember them <3 The tour was cool, …”

“This desert tour is a must do! It is great value for money, and not only do u get to see the desert but many other attractions along the way, which make the drive enjoyable. Perfect for a solo traveller, as the bus is small so it’s easy to get to know people quickly. Moha Bouni was an incredible …”

FAQ

How much cash do I need on a desert tour?

Enough for three lunches, drinks, tips, the small guide fees at the stops and any quad or 4x4 ride you want. The listings give no total, and prices at the stops vary, so take a reserve in dirhams.

Is lunch included on the desert tour?

Only with the lunch option of Ando Travel, on its round trip and its tour to Fes. Everywhere else lunch is paid at the restaurant stop.

Why does the price change when I pick an option?

Camp class, private tour and lunch are options of the same listing. The price on this site belongs to the shared standard option, and each upgrade adds to it.

Do I have to tip?

Where a listing mentions tips, they are not included. Whether and how much you give the driver and guide is up to you.
